Feliz lunes.!! Happy Monday.!! I hope everyone is having a fantastic start to their week.! And that your weekend was delightful.!! I know my weekend was amazing.!! Of course, I’m still flying high over my job offer πŸ˜€ Yowza.!! I think I’ve connected with every single friend here and in Mexico because of the job news.! Friends near and far have called, texted, facebooked, and seen me in person to offer their congratulations.! I feel very loved and supported right now. I truly am a blessed girl and I could not have made it this far without my friendships.!! I even went to brunch this weekend with one of my new co-workers.!

In fact, the only sad news right now is that there are no new Dos Equis’ commercials. And today we will have to bid adios to our Most Interesting Man in the World 😦 I wish it wasn’t so.! I have searched high and low for new ads and have come up empty. I feel the same way I did when I had to leave the Tecate ads behind…sad. But, there’s nothing left to do. I can’t keep recycling the Most Interesting Man. He wouldn’t approve. I promise in the future if I come across a new commercial, I will bring back the Most Interesting Man for a visit.!! In the meantime, please enjoy this compilation of some of my favorite Dos Equis’ commercials – radio, still, and video.!! Enjoy.! Y salud.!!

p.s. Next week I will introduce our new weekend commercial πŸ™‚

walmart, hot dogs, and home or my quest for the holy grail

I was never a huge fan of Walmart when I lived in the states. I have always been a bigger groupie of Target which I first discovered while living in L.A. in my early twenties. Or like a really, really, long time ago πŸ™‚ Target got a hold of my loyalty first and kept me just happy enough that the hold never loosened.

However, when I moved to Mexico, there were no Targets. But, there were Walmarts. In fact, Playa del Carmen had three Walmarts.!! Go figure. So whenever I felt homesick, I went to Walmart. It was eerily familiar to the Walmarts in the states minus the signs in Spanish. And it comforted me in a way that going to the local businesses in playa did not. Oftentimes, I would meet my friend C., the beauty contest winner, and we would eat hot dogs at Walmart.! Yes, hot dogs πŸ™‚ And I felt like I was home.

But I was not really home even though I had a job and good friends in Mexico. My job was fun, but it was not in my field nor was it commensurate with my experience and my degree. A challenging and engaging job eluded me in Mexico; as did a real home. I lived in six different apartments during my time in Mexico.! And truthfully, only the first and last ones came the closest to feeling like a home. But even in both of those apartments, I only stayed six months. Moving around was the new normal.

When I returned to Chicago two years ago, I struggled with finding a job and a home. My apartment came first. I have now been living in my place for a year.! A whole year with my belongings πŸ™‚ I can’t tell you how amazing that feels.!! But the job still eluded me. Sure I had temporary jobs and jobs that paid the bills, but not THE job. You know, the holy grail job – the job that satisfies you.! That quest eluded me for two whole years dear reader.!

But this week, after much interviewing and hours of networking combined with blood, sweat, and tears – I got a job offer.!! But not just any job offer – THE job offer.!! It’s as if the universe conspired and angels handcrafted my perfect fit job complete with perks and benefits.!! I couldn’t be more happier πŸ˜€ I couldn’t be more in shock.!! I couldn’t be more relieved. Of course, I accepted the job offer.!

Honestly, if I had known when I stepped off that plane two years ago that it would take me that long to get this job – I might have stayed on the plane. If I had known what suffering and disappointment awaited me – I might have turned back around and returned to Mexico. But I’m glad I didn’t. I’m proud of myself for sticking to my quest and finding my holy grail. Victory tastes so much sweeter now. And home finally feels like home.

Feliz lunes.!! Happy Monday.!! What a weekend.!! The Super Bowl was so close I was biting my fingers.!! And in the end, the Seattle Seahawks lost a game they should have won. However, the blizzard did not disappoint.! The record snowfall of 19.3 inches made this the fifth largest snowfall in Chicago history.! Thank technology for the all wheel drive (AWD) that allowed me to get out of my parking spot πŸ˜€

When I was younger, I used to look forward to snowstorms. Besides, snow days from school, I enjoyed playing in the snow. My siblings and friends and I would always go to a parking lot and find the piled on snow in the corner of the lot and turn it into a fortress or castle.! One time, we managed to create a doorway and we decided it was a time warp machine.!! Fun times. Now as an adult I look at those same piles of snow at a grocery store and think, “Hey.! That could be an extra parking spot.!” Ah, youth…

Speaking of youth, did you know that the Most Interesting Man in the World gave his father the talk.? jajaja… Of course, he did.! In this week’s Dos Equis’ commercial, we also learn that in a former life, the Most Interesting Man was himself.! I’m also 100% positive, he would have made a different play in the last 2 minutes of yesterday’s Super Bowl game.! Oh well…there’s always next year. Enjoy.! Y salud.!!

and yes…this is a corona commercial…

Today is NFL Super Bowl XLIX or 49.!! The Seattle Seahawks are playing the New England Patriots in Glendale, Arizona. I had Super Bowl plans, but this snow storm has unfortunately derailed them :-/ The winter storm warning from yesterday officially turned into a blizzard today.!! So I’ll be watching the game from my comfy couch and just chatting with my friends on the phone.!!

In case you guys hadn’t heard, both coaches in this year’s Super Bowl can claim Croatian heritage.!! The Seahawks’ coach has a maternal grandmother from Croatia; while, the Patriots’ coach can claim being Croatian on his father’s side.!! So regardless of which team wins, Croatia wins πŸ™‚ In honor of today’s Super Bowl, I thought a tribute by a Mexican beer commercial was in order. Enjoy.!!
