My friend P., the photographer not only took these beautiful photos last week after the Maja’Che, but she wrote the following post on her Facebook page –

estoy camote.!!

As I have been super busy recently with my father – I thought we could revisit one of my favorite idioms from my time in Mexico. Especially since it translates to being busy 🙂 Enjoy.!!

I love words and idioms and expressions.! And yesterday I realized that I had not yet introduced all of you to one of my favorite expressions from my time in Mexico.! So I think today is the day to make that introduction.! One day I was Facebook chatting with one of my male friends, we were bantering back and forth like a tennis match. But at one point, when he took too long to answer one of my messages, I sent him the following retort – “?????”. To which he replied, “Espérame, estoy camote.” Translation – “Wait for me, I’m a sweet potato.????” What.?!?

Apparently, in the Yucatán, if you are so busy that you are discombobulated or a little crazy, you can say “estoy camote” and it means “I’m busy”. It’s usually used by maseros or waiters when…

On May 5th, Playa del Carmen experienced a storm or tormenta. The winds came suddenly, furiously and fiercely.

Maja’Che is the Mayan name for sudden winds that can knock over trees. My very brave friend P., the photographer, took these amazing photos. There are also some videos – I’ll see if I can post them soon. Also, there were some lovely calm “after storm” photos I’ll share next time too 🙂

I went to Dublin, Ireland in the summer of 2008. I had such a wonderful time there and met many great friends that I returned to Dublin in the summer of 2009. At this point, I know what you’re thinking – “um, hello Rose, wrong blog! sometimes paradise is a tres aniversario…

March 18th is another very important date in my life. For starters, six years ago, I went to Playa del Carmen for the first time and my life was changed. I fell in love with the people, the town, and Mexico itself.!! I never wanted to leave. But leave I did…

And so three years ago on the very same date…I started my blog. I needed to deal with the pain of leaving a place I had grown to love immensely. I need to grieve the loss of Playa’s sky, clouds, water and scent which I no longer received nourishment from on a daily basis. I needed blog therapy.!!! jajaja…

And it worked.!! Yesterday was my three year anniversary.!!! While, I can’t believe three years have gone by; I also can’t believe I don’t miss Playa as much.?! Of course, I miss my friends.! But I now have a new life in Chicago which I love very much too 🙂

Thank you dear fellow bloggers for your support and encouragement.! I truly feel like I have made some good friends from blogging and developed a social network 🙂 Thank you to all of my readers, followers, and friends.! If you didn’t keep reading, I probably would have stopped writing at some point and the blog therapy wouldn’t have been as successful.! So thank you 😀 Muchas gracias a todos.!!

I love hammocks (hamacas).!! They’re the perfect beach side accoutrement 🙂 In the Riviera Maya, they are a huge draw at many bars, restaurants, and hotels.

Among Riviera Maya residents, sometimes they’re they only sleeping arrangements they have. Now while I love a good hamaca, I don’t think I would ever get comfortable enough to sleep in it all night.! But you never know…

walmart, hot dogs, and home or my quest for the holy grail

The other day I mentioned what an important date February 17th seems to be in my life. So I reposted my return trip home blog. Today, I want to revisit a year ago when I got my job offer.! And yes, I’m still there 🙂

I was never a huge fan of Walmart when I lived in the states. I have always been a bigger groupie of Target which I first discovered while living in L.A. in my early twenties. Or like a really, really, long time ago 🙂 Target got a hold of my loyalty first and kept me just happy enough that the hold never loosened.

However, when I moved to Mexico, there were no Targets. But, there were Walmarts. In fact, Playa del Carmen had three Walmarts.!! Go figure. So whenever I felt homesick, I went to Walmart. It was eerily familiar to the Walmarts in the states minus the signs in Spanish. And it comforted me in a way that going to the local businesses in playa did not. Oftentimes, I would meet my friend C., the beauty contest winner, and we would eat hot dogs at Walmart.!…
