When I first moved to Mexico, I heard this song everywhere.!! I couldn’t escape it’s playful and danceable tune anywhere in the streets of playa.! Taxis, buses, every store on 30th Avenue and Quinta Avenida was blasting this song from their radios. So now whenever I hear this song it reminds me of my time in Playa del Carmen and brings a smile to my face 🙂
According to wikipedia.com –
“”We No Speak Americano” is a song by Australian duo Yolanda Be Cool and producer DCUP. It was released on the independent Australian label Sweat It Out on 27 February 2010. The song samples the 1956 Italian (though sung in the Neapolitan language) song “Tu Vuò Fà L’Americano” by Renato Carosone, written by Carosone and Nicola Salerno. “We No Speak Americano” became a hit in Europe, Australia, and Latin America (where the song is also known as Pa-Panamericano) as well as a top 40 hit in the U.S. and Canada. It also won the 2011 ARIA award for “Best Dance Release.” The song has sold over 1 million digital copies in the United States as of 10 April 2011.”
The translation for the lovely song is as follows –
“How can your sweetheart possibly understand you, when you talk to her in half American (English)? When you two are making love under the moonshine, how can it even cross your mind to say I love you? You’re just a wannabe American! Whiskey and Soda and Rock’n’roll”.
Enjoy the tune during this Labor Day weekend in the states or wherever you may be worldwide 🙂
