money can’t buy you love….

Or happiness for that matter… But, on the other hand, it does buy you peace of mind. You don’t have to worry about paying your rent, paying your bills, or paying those you owe. It also gives you independence and the freedom to make choices. Without money, you end up indebted sometimes in more ways than one. And besides my father, that is one of the main reasons I returned from Mexico. I knew I was never going to make the kind of money that would have given me the freedom I so desire. And boy do I desire that freedom – to breathe easy, to travel, to live..!!

And in honor of that amazing dream, I want to talk about the new one hundred dollar bill which made it’s debut recently.! It’s pretty savvy.!! Plus it has several advanced security features.! For starters, it has a 3D blue ribbon on the front that when tilted back and forth changes from bells to 100s. Secondly, there is a color changing bell located in the copper colored inkwell. Tilt the C-note and the bell changes from copper to green.!! Of course, the note still has the previous security features such as security thread, portrait watermarks, and raised printing among many others.

The cool thing about new money in the states is that the old money never gets old. That’s why you can have several types of one hundred dollar bills in circulation at the same time; as well as, twenties, tens, fives, etc. However, in other countries, such as Mexico, once new money is created, the old money becomes void. It is no longer viable. I learned this the hard way with ten pesos that I had saved from a visit to Mexico in the late 1980s. I could not use it anywhere in Mexico when I returned in 2010. How curious, no? Que raro.!!

Another curious thing – how money makes the world go round just by itself making the rounds. And that theory is made especially clear in the short film titled – Guan Jondred Dollar. We get to see one ‘one hundred dollar’ bill make the rounds in a small town in Mexico. The characters in the film embody the idea of what happens when you don’t have enough money, but in a lighthearted manner. In fact, I still want to know how the desk clerk times everything so perfectly.!! Ah the joys of living in a small town and knowing everybody’s secrets.! jajaja… I have included this movie before in one of my first blog posts. But I am super excited to include it today with English subtitles.!! Therefore, in celebration of the new C-note – Enjoy the film!
